Wait, what? Yes- thanks to Norwegian Air’s new-ish route, flights to Guadeloupe can be found for just around $200 round trip!

(Ok, so not KLM and not Saint Martin- but, beach…plane….you get the idea)

In 2015 I began teaching English in the Caribbean, on the island of Guadeloupe (a French Overseas Territory for anyone who has no clue where it is, aka everyone). When I signed up for the gig flights to Guadeloupe were expensive and long, often involving more than one layover. I flew from Baltimore to Miami to San Juan to Antigua to Guadeloupe, and it took me just under a billion hours.

left in the dark, arrived in the dark…12hr later

That fall, Norwegian airlines started flying from some major US cities to the Island, making it more accessible, and crazy cheap to get there and back. With prices under $60 one way these flights are opening the Island to more American tourists than ever. And let me tell you, when it was announced that these flights were starting, eeeeeveryone on the island was talking about them. My return trip home for Christmas, just 3 months after my initial flight cost just $100 and took 4.5 hours, from Guadeloupe to JFK nonstop.

So how can you take advantage of these tickets? Norwegian has a fall sale every year where prices drop. Tickets to Guadeloupe and Martinique are on the list and I’ve seen one way fares for $50, for a long weekend trip. (I even heard one couple talking on the plane back of a mythical January fare for $25 one way). Book soon! Ticket prices are rising and flights are for prime tourist season only. They end in March and start back up again at the end of September!

This could be you but you haven’t bought your ticket yet…

With prices like these, anyone can afford a Caribbean getaway!  Once you’re on the island you’ll need to find accommodations, transportation and the like, but in comparison with some other vaction spots, Guadeloupe is way affordable.
If you’re interested in this deal, check out Norwegian’s site for full details and updated fares. As of today I saw departure flights from NYC for $59 and return for $129, which makes for one cheap long weekend! They’re currently offering flights out of New York, and Boston. So this may not be ideal for anyone living on the west coast, but it is still by far the cheapest option!
